Lithium batteries are inherently dangerous if not completely discharged. A beacon that has reached its battery replacement date will still have charge in the battery.
Batteries should be handled carefully and not subjected to flame or cutting tools.
Be careful not to short circuit the battery terminals as rapid discharge of Lithium batteries can result in overheating of the batteries, rupture and even explosion.

The RLB32 Satellite 2 EPIRB replaces the RLB27 and is one of the more common ACR EPIRBs in use in Australia. The RLB33 Globalfix is the version of the RLB32 that can interface with a compatible, operating GPS receiver. The beacon stores the data and will incorporate the data in the emergency message transmitted over the Cospas-Sarsat system. The ACR PLB 200 and PLB 201 beacons are manufactured in three versions for each model: Aquafix; Terrafix; and Aerofix. The only difference is the colour of the beacon. The PLB 200 models have both an interface to a suitable, operating external GPS and its own internal GPS. The PLB 201 models only have the interface to a suitable, operating external GPS unit. The list of suitable external GPS units can be found in the operating manual supplied with the beacon.
