Beacon Registration Statistics
- Prior to the introduction of online distress beacon registration in July 2008, an average of 42 beacons were registered each day. Since then, this number increased and peaked at an average of 306 per day, more than seven-times the previous average.
- 50% of all beacon registrations are done via AMSA’s online registry.
- 3193 digital distress beacons were registered in February 2010, with an average of 114 each day.
- A record 9896 distress beacons were registered in February 2009.
- To date, AMSA has received approximately 152,000 distress beacons registrations.
- A considerable number of users who have registered their beacons online have already re-accessed their online accounts to update or add additional information.
